When in Nueva Ecija Part 2: Puno's Ice Cream and Sherbet

Puno’s Ice Cream and Sherbet is a well-known ice cream brand in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija. It was established in the late 1940’s and was founded by Atanacio and Simeona Puno, natives of Arayat, Pamapanga and migrated to Cabanatuan City after World War II. They decided to put up the ice cream business to send their 9 children to school.

The ice cream manufacturing process was mainly done manually in the ancestral home of the Puno family. Finished product storage and distribution operations of the company were also done in the same place. Products were vended in a pushcart as a street food.

They have been offering this frozen dessert to Novo Ecijanos for around six decades and now perfected the taste and quality of their products. They actually have 7 branches in Cabanatuan City, 17 scattered outlets around Nueva Ecija and even one in Baler, Aurora.
Some of the flavors are Buko Sherbet with Lychees, Ube Cheese, Strawberry, Fruit Salad, Cookies and Cream, Corn Queso, Chocolate with Cashew, Langka Cheese Cashew, and their bestseller Cheese Cashew Macapuno.
Famous logo.

They come in many sizes.

This is their best seller and my favorite as well!

When in Nueva Ecija Part 1: Cabanatuan

Cabanatuan City is located in the central plains of Luzon and the largest city in Nueva Ecija, and It is popularly known for being home to more than 30,000 tricycles and prides itself as the "Tricycle Capital of the Philippines. When people ask me what to do here, I don't know exactly what to answe since our home is far from Cabanatuan for like an hour of travel. I graduated in NEUST (known before as Central Luzon Polytechnic University) Main Campus situated here spending almost 5 years of my life until I transferred to Manila for work. I would go home once or twice a month to visit my Father residing in Northern part of Nueva Ecija. My beloved province is also rich in history which is known to be one of the provinces that participated during the Spaniards revolution.

The province of Nueva Ecija, thru Cabanatuan City, is easily reachable from Metro Manila through numerous bus lines plying the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). Travel time is about three to four hours, depending on the traffic. Most, if not all buses, stop at Cabanatuan City’s central bus terminal, found just a little bit on the outskirts of the downtown area. Currently, there are no commercial airports in Nueva Ecija.

Where to go and what to do in Cabanatuan

A trip to Edna's Cakeland

This bakeshop is one of the most visited place for those who are looking for pasalubong or simply craving for some sweet treats. It is a hidden shop located in Kapt. Pepe beside the Iglesia ni Cristo church. Upon entering, you will be thrilled with their different designs of cakes and they have pastries as well. You can have the delectable boxes of cheese rolls, mamon, yema and ube rolls, brownies and so many other pastries. They do also customize cakes for different occasions. We tasted some of their best sellers! They have dining area too where you can enjoy their homegrown bake goodies.

Batutay

It is not a typical longanisa made of pork meat, but instead made of cow’s meat. It is processed with garlic, MSG, pepper, salt, soy sauce, and sweeteners. “If you’re here in Cabanatuan, you should try to taste batotay as you can never go wrong! Trust me :) They also have other variety of longanisa such as garlic, hamonado and skinless.

Indeed, Nueva Ecija is a province that, for sure, will excite all food lovers /taste buddues looking for a new place to fall in love with. More of Nueva Ecija in my next blog! See you. :D

CHICKEN CORDON BLEU

Hi there! Here I am again :)
Since I am newbie in blogging, it excites me a lot to share anything here.
I remember that I mentioned in my first blog that I love to cook, so I want to share my recipe of one of my favorite dish which is the "Chicken Cordon Bleu". I don't actually have a copy of this recipe because I am not that type of person keeping notes whenever I am cooking. Sabi nga nila, nasa isip at puso lang yan ng nagluluto. (Yes naman! hehe). Also, I am not a professional cook/chef, no proper training. it's just that i love to cook, that's it! Besides, according to one of my favorite movie "Ratatouille", Chef Gusteau's famous motto, "Anyone can cook." As long as you have passion and love for it, you can do it. :) Namana (inherit) ko din siguro sa Mama at Papa ko. hehe! Cooking this recipe may require you a lot of patience becasue it's really a complex one, I must say. To share it with you, I researched for a recipe and found one that's similar to mine. Thanks to Panlasang Pinoy hehe!I edited some of it actually for my personal taste and added my own Creamy garlic sauce. So here it is.

CHICKEN CORDON BLEU
Cook Time:30
oh yes!!!!!!! My very own Chicken cordon bleu.

Ingredients:
3 pcs sweet ham (cut each into 2)
Sliced cheddar cheese (long sticks)
Flour
1/4 tsp. salt
ground pepper
1 beaten egg
1 cup fine breadcrumbs
salt and pepper

Creamy Garlic Sauce
Garlic
Onion
Butter
Ground pepper
Flour

Procedure: Pound chicken to flatten.
Season with salt and pepper.
Set aside.
In a bowl, season flour with salt and pepper according to taste.
In another container, season breadcrumbs with salt and pepper.
Place sliced ham on top of flattened chicken.
Put cheese stick/slice on top and roll chicken and form into a log (you may use toothpick or thread thick enough to hold the log form).
You may steam the chicken or directly fry it once covered with flour, egg and bread crumbs.
Dip chicken in the seasoned flour mixture, then dip in beaten egg and dredge in seasoned breadcrumbs.
Fry in hot oil until evenly cooked.
Drain on paper towel and slice before serving.

For Sauce: Sautè garlic and onion in butter.
Add cream, water and flour.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Wait to boil until thicken.

Thirty not Flirty and Thriving! :)

Hello! This is my official and very first blog that will be posted and I am so excited! :)
I am no expert when it comes to blogging/writing so pardon me (hehe!) but I will try my very best to share with you anything under the sun.

Today is July 31, 2016 (Sunday) and before my birth month ends, I want to share with you my simple 30th birthday celebration last July 13, 2016. Oh Yes, I am one of the 1986 babies. :)

I really love to cook specially when it's for the people you love the most. I remember when I was  still a teenager, I always watch my Mom cooking Filipino food/dishes and that's where i got my skill/talent in cooking. Little did you know, my Mom graduated as a Teacher major in Food Technology in Bulacan State University. She was really really good in cooking! In fact, whenever there's a wedding nearby, my parents were always hired to be the "Cook".

Going back to my 30th birthday, we planned to celebrate it as simple as possible together with my close family members. My father who resides in Nueva Ecija went here in Manila to be with us. I decided to cook for our favorite "handaan" food instead of ordering it because aside from I could save money, it feels great to cook for your loved ones. The following are included in my "Handa" during my 30th birthday;

  • shanghai rolls
  • fried chicken
  • cheese stick
  • Pancit Malabon
  • Barbeque
  • Leche flan (creme caramel)
  • Estrels Caramel Cake (we ordered it)
  • Nathaniel's buko pandan (my sister bought it in FisherMall)
  • Biko with Latik (bought in Nueva Ecija)

My younger brother Gian helped me in cooking all of these and birthdays won't be completed without a cake, so my husband Marlo decided to order my favorite caramel cake from Estrels (Yum!).

I am very thankful to the Lord for blessing me with all what i have right now. They say age is just a number and Yes I'm 30 and it feels great!

Thank you for reading my blog. :)
